LGA 1851: On CPU bending, RL-ILM and contact frames support

The just launched Arrow Lake processors do bring a new platform and the LGA 1851 socket, but that doesn’t mean incompatibility with coolers. Although Arrow Lake has more contacts, the processor size and mounting holes have remained the same, so all the coolers compatible with the LGA 1700 socket will keep working. Asus NitroPath: Improved DIMM slots boost RAM speed by 400 MHz

New X870E motherboards for AMD processors and Z890 boards for the new Intel Core Ultra 200S processors are now coming to the market. There will be one new feature on Asus boards that is supposed to improve the performance of RAM. It’s a new DIMM slot design that may not look any different on the outside, but has improvements that should allow DDR5 to overclock to higher clock speeds with better signal quality for more stable operation. X870 Aorus Elite WiFi7. Gigabyte’s mid-range tested

It copies the older B650E Aorus Pro X USB4 in many points, but it is not a “perfect clone”. In some ways the Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WiFi7 has the upper hand, in others it lags behind. However, this mid-range motherboard is definitely worth your attention. Do you still have to use Intel Default Settings with Raptor Lake?

Last week, Intel announced discovery of another source exposing desktop Raptor Lake processors (Core 13th and 14th generation) to high voltage that leads to irreversible damage and instability. But there’s one more thing: The company says that to protect your CPU from damage, you should use the so-called Intel Default Settings that restrict power limits. CUDIMM will work on AM5, MSI says, Ryzen 9000 or 8000 needed

Recently, we reported that the Intel LGA 1851 platform with Core Ultra 200 (“Arrow Lake”) processors will premiere certain memory innovation – CUDIMM modules that have an integrated clock driver (CKD) that enables operation at (hopefully) higher clock speeds. It was unclear for a while whether this would end up being an Intel exclusive feature, but now it looks like CUDIMMs will be usable on AM5 boards with Ryzen processors as well. Asus TUF Gaming X870 Plus WiFi: USB4 for reasonable money

Motherboards with AMD X870 chipsets are already in stores. Unlike the older models designed for the AM5 platform, also compatible with Ryzen 9000 processors, X870 motherboards must support the USB4 interface, and there are more minor changes. Intel Raptor Lake CPUs need another fix to prevent damage

It seemed like the huge issue of unstable and crashing Intel Raptor Lake CPUs (Core 13th and 14th desktop generation) was over – and Intel would certainly like it to be – when last month BIOSes with microcode fixes started coming out. But it’s not. The company has now issued a new statement saying that even those fixes are not yet enough, and owners will need one more update to prevent these processors from slowly failing. AMD X870, X870E, B850, B840 chipsets: Features and launch dates

Along with new CPUs based on the Zen 5 architecture, AMD has announced new boards in June, more precisely new chipsets for them, on which the new boards will be based (the CPUs themselves work in all AM5 boards). The date when these boards will come out seems to be clearer now. But this year, we’ll only see the more expensive X870 and X870E models and it will be a longer wait for the cheaper B850 and B840 variants. Gigabyte B650E Aorus Pro X USB4: Motherboard with X870 specs

Are you eagerly awaiting the new AMD X870(E) motherboards? They don’t necessarily have to be “better” than the Gigabyte B650E Aorus Pro X USB4 in any fundamental way. The features of this motherboard match what can be expected in models with “800 series” chipsets. These will be coming out soon, but USB4 support, which is a key new feature, is already available on the Gigabyte motherboard. So there might not be too many practical differences. The fix for dying Intel CPUs is out for first motherboards

It looks like the most important thing to happen in the PC industry this year are the widespread issues of Intel Raptor Lake processors with instability and game crashes caused by gradual physical damage to the chips due to high voltages that leads to irreversible degradation. The microcode patches, which will hopefully stop the CPUs from dying – the CPUs for which it is not too late already that is – have finally started to appear.
